Stay Dirty: Eddie launches a podcast to answer the emails he left on read

The trailer and Episode 2 went up alongside a Nissan Maxima Short whose comments became a long argument about CVT transmissions.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

What does a mechanic do with thousands of unanswered emails? Eddie built a podcast around them. Stay Dirty, launched with a trailer on October 3, has viewers send in their real car problems, and he answers them out loud: what is broken, what it should cost and how to fix it. The trailer pitches him as the mechanic in your corner, not the dealership's and not the manufacturer's.

Episode 2 comes with an apology in its title, "Sorry I Left You on 'Read'", and a plan in its description: the most asked questions first, then individual car troubles. The long episodes draw a smaller crowd than the Shorts, but they are the clearest picture yet of where the channel is heading.

The Shorts still carry the most views. Eight uploads went up over the week, and the most watched was "Doesnt take much to destroy this car", a Nissan Short that passed 300,000 views. Its comment section turned into a Maxima owners' club. The most liked comment says the moral is to find a mechanic who can read the spec sheet. Others praise the VQ35 engine and blame the CVT gearbox, and drivers post their own high-mileage Altimas, Sentras and Rogues as proof that fluid changes keep them going. A few just hope there is a follow-up.

The newest Short, "My tools aren't always cheap", is now gathering views fastest, while the nine-day-old "Guess who's car this is.." has passed a million.

The channel is moving slower than its usual pace, yet about 5,000 new subscribers arrived over the week. Among the car channels near its size, only doubt added more views.

  • Moral of the story: Make sure the mechanic you take your car to can READ the spec sheet.

  • VQ 35 engines are ultra long lasting. If only Nissan never invented the CVT and stuck with regular transmissions, you would see far more Maximas and Altimas on the road today

  • I hope there is a follow up on this one, fingers crossed that they didn't need a new transmission😅!

  • I have a 2010 Sentra with a CVT. The old girl has over 300,000 miles on her. She was flooded out to the center console in Hurricane Ian. She still runs great. Doesn't burn any oil. Hasn't had any problems with the CVT except for some whining which went away after the first CVT fluid change at a bit over 200,000 miles. I am always conservative on the gas pedal. I don't race the engine, gun the engine, or anything like that. The only thing I have done to the CVT is put a microwave ring magnet on the outside bottom of the CVT fluid pan, and changed the fluid a couple of times with Castro…
  • I miss the 90's 😭 when Nissan Maximas were the gold standard for affordable entry level sporty luxury cars.
