Class of '92, thirty years on: Prime Video Sport replays 'You can't win anything with kids'

Three uploads in three days circled Alan Hansen's famous line and the young Manchester United side that answered it, with Klopp, Mourinho and Michael Owen's stables in between.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Three days old and already past 100,000 views, "When Man Utd's Class of '92 proved EVERYONE wrong 😤" is the video carrying Amazon Prime Video Sport right now. It is the third part of a little trilogy the channel built across three days: first the 1995-96 season itself, then the origin of the line that framed it, "You can't win anything with kids," and finally the youngsters who made it look silly.

The story is a football classic. Alan Hansen said it on Match of the Day after United lost on the opening day of 1995-96, and Sir Alex Ferguson's side, with Beckham, Scholes and the Nevilles in the team and Giggs and Butt alongside them, went on to win the league and the FA Cup. The tags lean on Beckham, Gary Neville and Ferguson.

The comment section is half reunion, half time capsule. Viewers keep returning to Cantona's winner in the cup final, to Schmeichel's place behind the kids, and to the commentary and TV graphics of the era. One longtime fan points out that the champions' changing room had a peg and a bench each, plainer than many Sunday league teams get now.

Around the trilogy, fifteen uploads in all, Liverpool got their turn: Jamie Carragher visiting Michael Owen's racing stables, and a Jürgen Klopp line about Alisson that moved fast in its first day. A Mourinho-era Spurs short on Troy Parrott, the Irish striker, kept Irish viewers in the mix.

The channel ran a little below its usual daily pace and still added about 10,000 subscribers. Among football channels its size, Fooftly and BallBlitz had the big weeks, while Everton's and Newcastle's own channels moved more gently.

  • I’m not just saying this because I’m older and remember this season like it was yesterday, but the change in the infrastructure of English football in this 30 years has been vast. Look at that changing room. My Saturday team has better changing rooms now and these were what the premier league champions were using 30 years ago. One peg each and a bench.
