Video taking off 106x its usual first day

France vs. Italy, twenty years after Berlin, on DAZN Football

The two-minute Nations League highlights came close to a million views inside their first day, and the comments keep circling back to Olise's left foot and one chance Moise Kean will want to forget.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 1,019,122 views a day, 106 times a normal first day on this channel (9,622).

Fifteen hours after DAZN Football posted its highlights of France against Italy, the clip had passed 800,000 views. A typical new upload on the channel opens with something closer to ten thousand on its first day, so this one is running in a different league entirely.

The fixture carries its own weight. France and Italy have met in some of the biggest matches European football has seen, none bigger than the 2006 World Cup final in Berlin, which Italy won on penalties after Zinedine Zidane was sent off in extra time. Twenty years on, the comments have not forgotten. The most liked one treats a red card for Dayot Upamecano as an anniversary tribute, and another notes that Zidane (now a figure of the past rather than the pitch) still seems to be caught by Italy.

The rest of the talk is about the game itself. Michael Olise's free kick and his left foot come up again and again, as does a first-half chance for Kean that many viewers simply cannot believe went begging. Alessandro Bastoni's goal gets its own warm thread, and a fair number of commenters say it is good to see Italy looking like Italy again. A smaller chorus wishes the highlights were longer than two minutes.

It was not the only Nations League clip pulling hard. Belgium against Türkiye, posted the same day, also ran far past the channel's usual start, while Sunday's Croatia vs England and Spain vs Czechia highlights are only just getting going.
