Video taking off 49x its usual first day

An Olise goal and talk of Italy's rebuild follow beIN's France v Italy reel

Belgium v Turkiye came next on a crowded night of Nations League highlights, with Bosnia and Herzegovina v Sweden further back.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 273,561 views a day, 49 times a normal first day on this channel (5,541).

Within seven hours of going up, the France v Italy highlights had passed 100,000 views on a channel where a new video usually ends its whole first day somewhere near 5,500. The reel came in as one of several from the latest Nations League round. Belgium v Turkiye was the next most watched of them, and Bosnia and Herzegovina v Sweden a clear step behind. It also ran further past the channel's usual start than the Denmark reel did a day earlier, as we reported here.

The comment section moved quickly as well. In those seven hours it gathered more comments than a video here normally collects in a full day. The most liked of them is about Michael Olise's goal, which commenters say no goalkeeper could have stopped, and several others call him close to the best player in the world.

A surprising share of the talk, though, belongs to the other side. Viewer after viewer writes about Italy looking competitive again, and many credit Roberto Mancini, the coach who won Euro 2020 with Italy, with a rebuild that seems to be on its way. Others single out Gianluigi Donnarumma's saves and a goal from Alessandro Bastoni. A few are simply glad the fixture felt like the France v Italy of the classic years.

The video itself is as plain as the channel's highlights always are: a title, one line about beIN's coverage, then the goals. The conversation underneath is the part that keeps going, which is roughly what beIN SPORTS Australia's own channel description says it is there for, the match living on after the final whistle.
