FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth's election-night broadcast drew about 190,000 views in its first nine hours, far beyond the station's usual audience for long broadcasts. Its coverage brought the Paxton-Talarico Senate contest, the governor's race and local elections into one live feed.
The statewide results brought a change in direction: Democrat James Talarico won the U.S. Senate seat over Republican Ken Paxton, while Democratic state representative Gina Hinojosa defeated Greg Abbott in the governor's race. Abbott had been seeking a fourth term.
The station's separate reports also brought the election down to the county level. In Tarrant County, FOX 4 reported that Democratic challenger Alisa Simmons defeated incumbent Republican County Judge Tim O'Hare. Alex Boyer's report covered that result, while Peyton Yager and David Sentendrey reported from the Senate candidates' watch parties in a separate polls-closing update.
The live stream was the central gathering point for that broader coverage. Even before a full day had passed, its views were many times the station's usual first-day total for long videos and live streams.
