Tangia, aguachile and a London globe maker bring Condé Nast Traveler near 220 million
Chef Clarisse Jolicoeur's Marrakech tour went up eight days ago and has passed 100,000 views, and the week's three shorts were all cut from it.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
This Marrakech Neighborhood is a Must Visit
Condé Nast Traveler is about 125,000 views short of 220 million lifetime views, a gap the channel usually closes in a day or two.
The week belonged to Marrakech. Three shorts went up, each one a bite from the longer Where the Chefs Eat episode with chef Clarisse Jolicoeur. One follows her through the Medina. Another visits Gueliz, the city's modern quarter, where a local chef makes Mexican aguachile with tiger prawns, mint and dill. The third goes back centuries, to beef tangia slow-cooked with garlic and saffron. Its description says Medina workers once cooked the dish in the fires that heated the hammams. None of the shorts drew more than about a thousand views, and one commenter simply named a dish of their own: seafood bastilla.
The full episode is where the crowd went. At eight days old it has passed 100,000 views. The busiest video on the channel, though, is a month-old episode of Made In about London's rarest crafts. It visits Peter Bellerby's globe workshop, master whip maker Mary Wing To, the milliners at Lock & Co. Hatters and wood artist Darren Appiagyei, and it has now passed half a million views. Further back, chef Erchen Chang's Taipei episode, three-taste chicken and convenience-store snacks included, is still finding people.
The channel ran a little below its usual daily pace and added around 2,000 subscribers. Among travel channels of a similar size, Tourist Walk Tours had the busiest week, while Expedition Evans and Jess & Jake were well under their usual pace. Condé Nast Traveler landed in the middle of that group, a channel where a London hat shop can still outdraw a fresh trip to Morocco.
