Morcote, Lake Lugano and a million views for Tourist Walk Tours
Dan's slow walk through the Swiss village's gardens and back streets crossed seven figures in 45 days, during a week with no new uploads.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
This Village Was Voted the Most Beautiful in Switzerland
"This Village Was Voted the Most Beautiful in Switzerland" is a walk through Morcote, on the shore of Lake Lugano in Italian-speaking Ticino, and it is the video carrying Dan's channel right now. It has passed a million views in a month and a half. The description explains the appeal better than any title could: he skips the postcard view by the water and climbs into back streets swallowed by palms, cypress and vines, filmed in late May a few hours after rain, under soft grey light.
Nothing new went up this week, and the channel barely seemed to notice. Daily views ran a little above their usual pace, and across the seven days Tourist Walk Tours added more views than any travel channel near its size, Jess & Jake, Expedition Evans and Condé Nast Traveler included. Several of those neighbors are running well below their usual pace.
The rest of the momentum comes from two more villages. Rastoke, the Croatian hamlet of watermills and waterfalls in Slunj that many drivers pass on the way to Plitvice Lakes, is four months old and still finding viewers. Makrinitsa, the car-free village on Mount Pelion known as the balcony of Pelion, follows close behind, with a detour down a steep path to Fakistra beach.
No narration and no rush in any of them, just footsteps and birds. Dan's about page promises exactly that, and the audience keeps taking him up on it.
