Cachaça, Blaithin and Donal: The TRY Channel goes to Brazil by the glass

The Brazilian spirit tasting passed 146,000 views in six days, and the comments are full of caipirinha recipes and memories of bars in Brazil and Portugal.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

The TRY Channel has worked its way through a good part of the world's drinks cabinet, but cachaça, the sugarcane spirit the description calls Brazil's most popular, had somehow never made it to the table. This week it did, and "Irish People Try Brazilian Alcohol For The First Time (Cachaça)" became the week's most watched upload, past 146,000 views in six days.

The comment section turned into a small Brazilian bar. Viewers from Brazil weigh in on the brands, one marveling that a taster found caramel notes in a bottle of Velho Barreiro, while others post their own caipirinha recipes and ask for the cocktail to turn up in a future shoot. A running thread is the pronunciation of the word itself, and several of the most liked replies are simply happy to see Blaithin and Donal tasting side by side again after a long gap.

The Torchbearer hot sauces, back for another round, are now picking up views a little faster than the cachaça, and the weird drinking products episode from two weeks ago, with its drinking shoe and Bongaroo, is still ticking along. On Wednesday, The Green Room reached its nineteenth episode, with Colin Regan, Darren Lalor and Hayley pitching the worst reality TV show ideas they could think of; one short cut from it ends in an apology to Sir David Attenborough.

Overall the channel ran a little below its usual daily pace. Among food channels of its size, Chef Thomson is the one having the big week, while Early American is quieter than usual.
