A school bell in the mail for a 1914 Indiana schoolhouse

A viewer's surprise package gave the restored schoolhouse its missing piece, and the comments filled up with ideas for where to ring it.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Someone sent a surprise package…Someone sent a surprise package…

Every old schoolhouse needs a bell, and Schoolhouse Homestead finally has one. The week's only upload, "Someone sent a surprise package…", opens a gift from a viewer and then, in the description's words, gets straight to "creating chaos with it." The bell works, and it is loud.

The building had waited a long time for that sound. Per the channel's about page, it was a school from 1914 to 1934, then spent roughly two decades as a barn for cattle, pigs, chickens, sheep and turkeys before a family lived in it until 2021. That was when two Indiana kids came home from New York and started putting in a roof, fixing floor joists and hauling out dumpsters of leftovers.

The comments read like a planning meeting. The favorite idea by far is turning the bell into a doorbell, with dinner bell close behind, and several viewers who sat in classrooms decades ago say they recognize the exact ring. One thanks a giver in Oregon by name.

The bell clip passed 50,000 views in its first day, but the channel's steadiest draw is a month-old project: the full build of a retired mini school bus turned into a colorful cottage on wheels, now past half a million views. A summer short about planting more than 200 milkweed plants and getting far more monarch caterpillars than expected sits well past three million and still adds views every day.

It was a slower week than usual for the channel, as it was for Abom79 and 6061, while HomeTransform had the busiest week among similar DIY and home channels.
