Video taking off 6.7x its usual first day

A Bosch sander, three deals to skip: Matt Outlaw's Prime Day tool list

Billed in its title as Amazon breaking Black Friday early, the 18-minute rundown pulled far ahead of the two shorter Prime Day videos 731 Woodworks posted the same day.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 94,547 views a day, 6.7 times a normal first day on this channel (14,024).

Matt Outlaw has been working in the trades since 1995, and on 731 Woodworks he mostly answers one question for other woodworkers: is this tool worth the money? His newest video asks it more than thirty times in a row. "Amazon Just BROKE Black Friday Before It Even Started (Prime Day Tool Deals)" walks through Amazon's October Prime Big Deal Days sale one chapter at a time, and it passed 70,000 views in its first fourteen hours. That is roughly five times what a new full-length video here usually draws across an entire first day.

The list moves from small shop upgrades to big machines. A miter gauge, a crosscut sled and a stack of clamps come first. Then come four table saws, a miter saw, a Kreg track saw beside a Milwaukee M18 one, a few CNC machines and a Japanese pull saw. Near the end sits a chapter called "Deals to Skip," which is a large part of the channel's appeal. The same afternoon, Outlaw posted a shorter companion, "3 Prime Day Tool Deals That Are a TRAP (and 10 That Aren't)," and a short on that pull saw. Both drew a fraction of the main video's crowd.

In the comments, one tool keeps coming up: a Bosch dual-mode sander that several viewers say they had wanted for a long time but would not buy at full price. Others write that they have updated their birthday and Christmas wish lists, or that they finally have a reason to buy a second Worx Pegasus folding workbench. One viewer jokes that the Milwaukee M12 Forge battery near the end is a tease, since it is not yet on sale. Another asks Outlaw to show the regular price next to the sale price, not just the discount.
