OPEN CHORDS ARE BORING, says Redlight Blue, and beginners keep listening
No new uploads went out, and a 78-day-old lesson on leaving basic chords behind is past 53,000 views.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
OPEN CHORDS ARE BORING
Among music lesson channels close to its size, Redlight Blue sits fourth of nine by subscribers and fifth by views added over the seven days. It is a comfortable middle spot in a group where Andrew Piano is having an outsized week and Scott Paul Johnson is running well above his usual pace.
Nothing new went up on the channel, whose about page sums up the whole project in five words: learning guitar and making vids. So the back catalog carried things, at a little below its usual daily pace.
The video doing most of that work is "OPEN CHORDS ARE BORING", posted in July and still drawing several hundred views a day. Its pitch is simple and aimed squarely at beginners: the easiest way to stop relying only on the basic open shapes everyone learns first.
Behind it comes "Learning Guitar With AI", two weeks old and already near 33,000 views. The description half-jokes that if AI is the tool for almost everything now, it probably makes sense to learn guitar with it too, and the question mark at the end of that thought does a lot of work. Further back, a spring video promising to help viewers learn songs ten times faster keeps finding players. Its description adds the one tip the creator says he forgot to put in the video: believe in yourself.
