Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

DON OMAR - DANZA KUDURO DRUMCOVER #drumcover

Among the music channels of his size, Emil Vergo is one of the few running hotter than usual. Only Colby Fulton Drums, a fellow drummer, is having a bigger week by a wide margin. Several guitar and piano channels nearby are drawing well under their normal pace, while his daily views sit about half again above his own norm.

The lift is not coming from anything new. His single upload, "SHAKIRA - HIPS DON'T LIE DRUMS WITH WATER #drumcover," sets the 2006 hit on a kit that throws up water with each stroke. It has made a modest start. Underneath it, viewers write in Spanish, Portuguese and Turkish. One asks for "Wipeout" next. Another admits to digging through his old videos to be sure he is not AI.

The real work is being done by two summer covers. "DON OMAR - DANZA KUDURO DRUMCOVER" is six weeks old and has passed two million views. "BON JOVI - IT'S MY LIFE FIRE DRUMS," the one with flames, is a week younger and closing in on five million. Each is still drawing about a hundred thousand views a day. Further back, his Måneskin "Beggin" cover from early summer keeps a steadier hum.

Water, fire, reggaeton and arena rock: the gimmick changes, but the formula is the same. A song everyone already knows gets played loud, with something happening around the drums.
