A torn prescription bag at the bottom of a medicine box gave police the clue they needed to return a late taxi driver's savings to his wife.
South Korea's Korean Broadcasting System (KBS News) reports that the woman took her husband's leftover medicines to a pharmacy in Ara-dong, Jeju City, on October 26. She wanted them disposed of and had no idea the box also contained 30 million won in cash.
Pharmacy employee Kim Do-hyeon discovered the bundles while sorting the contents. He describes being shocked and immediately deciding to report the find. Surveillance footage shows him carrying the money into a police station.
The remaining clue was a man's name, faintly visible on the torn prescription packaging. Officers checked the pharmacy's prescription records and identified the woman's husband, according to the report.
He had carefully accumulated the money while working as a taxi driver and kept it beside his bed, KBS reports. His wife remained unaware of the cash until police came to her home.
The money was returned within two days. Interviewed with her face blurred, she weeps and thanks both the pharmacy staff and the officers, emphasizing her gratitude that they made the effort to find her.
