Republicans had more Senate seats to protect than Democrats, and the early polling picture offered little reassurance. In South Korea's Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) election special, reporter Oh Yu-rim explained that Republicans were defending 22 seats, compared with 13 for Democrats.
This was an early election-night assessment, before the Democratic congressional sweep became clear. Its value is in showing how the emerging picture took shape, rather than announcing the eventual outcome.
Oh reported Democratic advantages in Ohio, Texas, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Georgia in the exit-poll picture available at that point. Florida leaned Republican, but within the margin of error. Texas received particular attention because a Democratic advantage there challenged the state's reputation as a conservative stronghold. She cautioned that the actual count could differ from the surveys.
The Senate breakdown then focused on Alaska, Texas and Iowa. Alaska brought an additional complication: ranked-choice voting, which can make the initial count an incomplete picture of the contest.
For the House, Oh turned to the industrial Rust Belt and Virginia, highlighting living costs and tariffs as economic issues confronting voters. The election forecasts displayed near the end favored Democratic control of both chambers, more strongly in the House than in the Senate. Those were probabilities, not declarations of victory.
