Spectators at a mermaid show in northern India were injured when the aquarium tank suddenly burst, sending water and shattered glass into the viewing area, India's Hindi-language broadcaster NDTV India reports.

Anchor Syed Suhail says the accident happened at a fair in Bahraich, in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The report includes footage of a performer wearing a mermaid costume underwater, with spectators gathered outside the glass tank.

According to Suhail, roughly 20,000 liters of water surged out when the tank ruptured. He reports that several people were hurt by the force of the water and fragments of broken glass, some of which penetrated their bodies. Around 40 people were watching the performance when the tank gave way, he says.
