Lim Hyung-joo stands before the altar in a black suit, pauses through the accompaniment and begins Schubert's "Ave Maria." The performance is his farewell to South Korean actor Choi Bool-am, whose funeral Mass took place at Yeouido Catholic Church in Seoul on November 2.
South Korea's Korean Broadcasting System (KBS News) opens its clip with photographs of the singer and actor together and Lim's written remembrance. Lim describes his close bond with Choi and his wife, affectionately addressing the actor as "Uncle." He recalls Choi asking him to smile when saying his final goodbye, and writes that he will try to honor that request.
The footage moves from that private memory to a church filled with mourners. Choi's portrait stands near the altar. Lim steps forward, bows and gathers himself before singing. During the performance, he places a hand against his chest; the camera also shows the portrait and those attending the service. He finishes by bowing toward the altar and congregation.
Choi was known not only as an actor but also as the host of the food documentary program Korean Cuisine and Dining. Here, the focus is on the personal farewell of a singer close to him.
