"Ultron's Got His Groove Back": James Spader's voice returns ahead of VisionQuest
The Marvel Short brings back the Age of Ultron villain a week before the series streams, and its comments read like a running transcript of his lines.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 1,398,326 views a day, 29 times a normal first day on this channel (47,976).
Ultron's Got His Groove Back | VisionQuest | Stream October 14 on Disney+
James Spader first gave Ultron his dry, menacing voice in Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015. Marvel's newest Short is built on the idea that he never really went away. The clip, "Ultron's Got His Groove Back," sells Marvel Television's VisionQuest, which streams on Disney+ from October 14. It passed roughly 700,000 views in its first eight hours, a pace a Marvel Short rarely keeps.
The description opens with a line about the role having "really started with a voiceover," a nod to how much of Ultron has always lived in Spader's delivery. Many viewers say the same in their own way. One calls him the most intimidating person in any room just by breathing, and another simply salutes Raymond Reddington.
The comment section is far busier than usual, already about ten times what a Marvel Short collects in a full day. Much of it is people typing out Ultron's new lines, with a few calling back to the Pinocchio taunt from 2015. Others enjoy that this villain makes no effort to reform, and some joke that the old "Ultron was right" memes finally paid off. A swap of dialogue about the body Ultron ends up in gets its own round of laughs, and comic readers point to a moment they link to his god complex on the page.
It was not the channel's only quick starter. The Phoenix Cyclops trailer for the fighting game MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls also outran a usual day. Meanwhile the channel has put the first three episodes of WandaVision online, the series where Vision's Disney+ story began.
