Yul Brynner's gunslinger and a sewer escape fill Warner Bros. Rewind's week

Michael Crichton's 1973 Westworld bar shootout passed a quarter of a million views, while a two-week-old Shawshank clip neared four million.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Among the studio and trailer channels near its size, Warner Bros. Rewind gained more views over the week than all but one, Focus Features, which has twice as many subscribers. Most of the others ran well under their usual pace. This clips channel, the studio's archive of scenes from older films, held right around its own.

The most watched of five new uploads went back half a century to Westworld, the 1973 thriller Michael Crichton wrote and directed years before Jurassic Park. In the bar scene, Richard Benjamin and James Brolin meet Yul Brynner's Gunslinger for the first time. The description calls it the first feature film to use digitized images. Commenters point to that too, especially the shots of the world through the robot's eyes, and several remember the film as a childhood favorite. One calls it a prelude to The Terminator.

The rest of the week jumped between eras. James Dean flubs his Bible verses on purpose in East of Eden, DiCaprio chases Damon through Boston in The Departed, and the trio meets the troll from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, posted just in time for October.

The real engine is still The Shawshank Redemption. Andy Dufresne's escape through the sewers, posted two weeks ago, brings in far more views each day than everything else on the channel combined. Cool Hand Luke's "Stay Down, Luke" prison fight keeps a quieter pace behind it. Rock hammers and chain gangs do well here. About a thousand new subscribers arrived over the week.
