Clayface tickets go on sale, and Matt Reeves' name fills the comments
The ticket Short for DC Studios' horror thriller drew more than a thousand comments in half a day, where the studio's Shorts usually collect a handful.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 850,628 views a day, 108 times a normal first day on this channel (7,912).
Clayface | Get Tickets Now
Studios post ticket reminders by the dozen, and most pass quietly. "Clayface | Get Tickets Now" did not. Twelve hours after Warner Bros. put it up, the Short had close to 600,000 views, on a channel whose Shorts usually spend their whole first day well under ten thousand.
The film is DC Studios' "Clayface", billed as a horror thriller and directed by James Watkins, the British filmmaker behind "The Woman in Black" and the 2024 "Speak No Evil". Tom Rhys Harries plays Matt Hagen, a Gotham street kid who becomes a Hollywood leading man until a local crime boss leaves him disfigured. An experimental treatment gives him his face back and takes his hold on reality with it, and the story turns into revenge. Mike Flanagan, the horror writer and director behind "The Haunting of Hill House", wrote the script with Hossein Amini. Longtime Batman fans will know the setup: in "Feat of Clay", the 1992 episode of Batman: The Animated Series, Matt Hagen was also an actor, voiced by Ron Perlman.
The comment section is where this Short really stands apart. A usual Warner Bros. Short gets a few comments on its first day; this one had more than a thousand by midday. Much of the talk is about the producers, above all Matt Reeves, who directed "The Batman", alongside James Gunn and Peter Safran. Others point to Flanagan's track record, and several ask whether they heard a nod to the animated series' Clayface music hiding in the score. One popular thread likes that the film seems built for people who have never heard of the character.
The rest of the studio's day was busy too: a second Clayface teaser, "Terror takes shape", plus clips for DIGGER, now in theaters, and dance shorts for "The Cat in the Hat", due November 6. Each of those sits in the low thousands. "Clayface" opens in North American theaters on October 23, with international dates from October 21.

It’s kinda funny looking back a couple years ago when all Tom Rhys Harries was known for was a brief appearance in Doctor Who. Now he’s one of Batman’s most iconic enemies

A half-day-old ticket Short, running far ahead of anything the studio's Shorts usually manage on their first day.
