Video taking off 21x its usual first day

Hilary Duff's 'CATastrophe' and a potato on a string get Bill Hader's Cat moving

Warner Bros.' musical teaser for its November animated film passed 110,000 views in twelve hours, and its comment section filled far faster than a usual short's.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 160,359 views a day, 21 times a normal first day on this channel (7,526).

The Cat landed. Warner Bros.' new teaser for The Cat in the Hat, set to a Hilary Duff song called "CATastrophe," had passed 110,000 views twelve hours after it went up. That is on course for about twenty times the studio's usual first day for a short. The comments moved faster still: a short here usually gathers a handful on its first day, and this one drew a couple of hundred before its first evening was out.

The description makes a cheerful promise: action, drama, a potato on a string and a Duff song. The potato is the moment many viewers single out, along with a later scene that several say looks like their own birthday parties. The line people quote most has the Cat asking whether someone goes on long business trips. Some say that kind of cheek reminds them of Mike Myers' live-action Cat from 2003. Others point out that Bill Hader, who voices the Cat, does a little dance at the very end that they recognize from Saturday Night Live.

For many in the comments, though, the surprise is Duff herself, and the Lizzie McGuire star comes up again and again. Her song gets its full release separately.

The film is billed as Warner Bros. Pictures Animation's first full-length feature. It is directed by Erica Rivinoja and Alessandro Carloni, with Xochitl Gomez, Matt Berry, Quinta Brunson and Paula Pell beside Hader, and it opens in theaters on November 6.

The studio posted the teaser twice the same day. The other copy, like the short countdown clips for DIGGER's opening, sits in the low thousands.
