BEASTON and a victory puppy: the Leafs' first win sends Steve Dangle's recap ten times past usual
Game 2 of the new Leafs Fan Reaction season, a 2-1 night against the Islanders, has viewers talking about Easton Cowan, the power play and old clips from the series' early days.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 130,234 views a day, 11 times a normal first day on this channel (12,254).

Among the sports channels closest to it in size, SteveDangle is drawing the most daily views right now. On an ordinary day several of them pull ahead of it. The channel is running at nearly five times its normal pace, and the newest Leafs Fan Reaction is a big part of why. Steve's recap of Toronto's 2-1 win over the New York Islanders drew around 130,000 views in its first day, roughly ten times what a new video here usually opens with.
It is the season's first win, so the timing helps. The opener went to Montreal, 3-2, and that recap has passed a quarter of a million views. A few days before it, Steve's instant analysis of the trade that sent Matthew Knies out and brought in Kirill Marchenko went past 370,000. Toronto hockey has given him a lot to talk about before October even started.
The title, BEASTON, plays on Easton Cowan's first name, and the tags point to his goal. Cowan was Toronto's first-round pick in 2023, and he fills much of the comment section. Some viewers joke about how he was used last season, and others say he is finding his legs. Elsewhere the talk turns to a lively second power-play unit, an argument over whether William Nylander lost a foot race or simply stopped skating, and the arena's goal horn, which a few commenters liked better the old way.
LFR, short for Leafs Fan Reaction, is the series Steve has built his channel on, a video after every game. This season's episodes slip in flashback clips from its first year, and viewers are asking him to keep them coming all season. One says a bit from 2009 still holds up. The win also brought out the first victory puppy of the season, a dog commenters call Max, and plenty of them bring up the moment Steve explained to the puppy what a phone book is. There is even a detour into a Steller's jay, which sent at least one viewer off to look up the bird.
