'Dive To Survive': Steve Dangle on Tim Stützle and a high stick in Ottawa
The third Leafs recap of the season is a 28-minute look at a 3-2 loss to the Senators, and its comment section is busy refereeing one late call.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 157,161 views a day, 13 times a normal first day on this channel (12,254).
LFR20 - Game 3 - Dive To Survive - Senators 3, Maple Leafs 2
Another one-goal loss. The Toronto Maple Leafs fell 3-2 to the Ottawa Senators in their third game of the season, and Steve Dangle's recap passed 150,000 views in less than a day. A new video on his channel usually starts far more quietly. The recap is the latest entry in the LFR series he posts after every Leafs game.
The title borrows from Formula 1: Drive to Survive, the Netflix series, and it points straight at the moment viewers cannot let go of: a stick that came up high on Ottawa's Tim Stützle. The video's tags carry both versions of the story, the "stutzle dive" and the "stutzle high stick", and the comments split along the same line. Plenty of viewers agree Stützle sold it. Just as many answer that a stick to the face is a penalty however the player reacts, and some are still debating whether the stick hit the visor first. A few Senators supporters stopped by to say the call did not decide the night and that the third period did. Others joke that another player's fall, which they liken to a figure skater's jump, deserved its own segment.
Kirill Marchenko is part of this one too, with a goal listed in the tags alongside one for Auston Matthews. Marchenko arrived in the six-player deal for Matthew Knies that Steve broke down a week earlier, and that instant analysis is still the most watched of his recent uploads.
At 28 minutes, the recap runs long for game three, and at least one viewer counts that as a bonus. The discussion also drifts past the night itself, to the team's longtime core and to Mike Babcock's "pain is coming" line from when he took over as coach in 2015. The channel's about line warns that Steve sometimes gets a little worked up, and one commenter welcomed everyone back for exactly that.

The numbers
The game 3 recap ran far ahead of a usual first day on the channel, and its comment section is already as full as a typical new video's is after a whole day.
