Johnny Depp's Scrooge runs twenty-three times past IGN Movie Trailers' usual start
Ti West's Ebenezer arrives a day after Schwarzenegger's Santa, and the comments are busy spotting a nod to Depp's first film and asking where the Muppets are.

How many people want to see Johnny Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge? On IGN Movie Trailers, nearly 128,000 in the first fifteen hours. That puts the film's second trailer on course for about twenty-three times the channel's usual first day.
The channel lives on other people's reveals: studio trailers, clips and featurettes, often several a day. Most of them open quietly. The Cat in the Hat's new trailer and a Klara and the Sun behind-the-scenes clip went up the same day and drew a few thousand views each. Marvel's VisionQuest trailer did better, about five times a usual start, and Ebenezer still left it far behind.
It is also the second Christmas film in two days to carry the channel, after Arnold Schwarzenegger's Santa, as we reported here.
Ebenezer is Ti West's take on Dickens. West made his name in horror with X and Pearl. Nathaniel Halpern wrote the screenplay, and Rupert Grint, Daisy Ridley, Sam Claflin and Andrea Riseborough are in the cast, with Ian McKellen billed last. The tagline promises the name you know and a story you don't. Paramount opens it in theaters on November 13.
The comments keep coming back to one shot: a bed that swallows Scrooge. Viewers read it as a wink at A Nightmare on Elm Street, where a young Depp met a similar end in his first film role. Others trade versions of the story, from Jim Carrey's animated one to the Muppets. A few doubt the tagline, after nearly two centuries of Scrooges.
