An English Farmhouse Celebrating the Quiet Romance of Country Life | House Tour
How old can a house on Homeworthy get? This one dates to 1540. Victoria Barker, the interior designer who founded Studio Faeger, is restoring a set of former farm cottages in Sulgrave, the Northamptonshire village where George Washington's ancestors kept their estate. The description says the house was once connected to that estate.
Sulgrave is best known for its manor, built in the sixteenth century by Lawrence Washington, a wool merchant and an ancestor of the first American president, and now open to visitors as a museum. Barker's house belongs to the same Tudor world. The tour shows old beams and stonework kept in place, and rooms filled with antiques and pieces she inherited.
It went up beside other tours, from J.J. Martin's maximalist Milan home to a designer's mountain house in Big Sky, Montana. The farmhouse moved fastest. It reached nearly 25,000 views in its first eight hours, while a new tour on the channel usually ends its whole first day with around 4,600.
The comments read like a map of other people's houses. A viewer in Queensland writes from an 1892 timber cottage and marvels at a home more than three centuries older. Others write from Canada and from the American suburbs. Several mention the Washington link, one wishes for a book of everything Barker has done to the house, and another is already picturing a tall Christmas tree in the hall.

What viewers say
Such a huge undertaking ... but what a spectacular result !! Your home is truly a "big hug" and I love the way you have diligently respected and preserved its heritage. I'm sitting here in springtime Queensland in my 1892-built timber cottage ... European settlement here is only from 1788 and so to see this beauty from 1540 is truly mind-blowing for this Aussie!
@sc3942See it on YouTubeI adore this quaint cottage and its interior. The hostess has a beautiful cadenced voice.🌹❤️💕
@edd9032See it on YouTubeI so appreciate people who tackle these very old properties and bring them back to life. I also love the connection with George Washington our founding father. So very special. Of all the beautiful English cottages I’ve seen on Homeworthy this, to me, is the most beautiful in its purposeful simplicity. Lovely hostess, bravo!

For a channel that posts several tours a day, this was a fast start, and the farmhouse ran well ahead of the others posted with it.
