Stabbing with the wrong knives: Neeves Knives visits Cold Steel

Jerad from Neeves Knives tests whether blades never meant for thrusting can still go in, and the video passed 230,000 views in six days.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Cold Steel's own about page warns that its videos show torturous and often abusive testing, and the week's collaboration took that warning to an odd corner of the craft. In "Stabbing with the wrong knives with @NeevesKnives," Jerad from Neeves Knives joins the channel to answer what the description calls the question nobody asked: can knives not designed to stab still penetrate flesh?

Plenty of people wanted the answer. The video passed 230,000 views in six days, many times what the week's other uploads drew. The comment section reads like a knife shop counter. Viewers trade notes on which models they carry, from the Black Talon 2 to a Recon 1 tanto, and a long thread argues whether slashing or stabbing matters more. Someone who has butchered pigs singles out one chop through a neck and spine as the feat that stood out. A longtime Cold Steel customer says they found the Neeves channel only this year.

Jerad is becoming a familiar face here. A short from mid-September has him praising the Italian Storta, a sword the description admits looks clumsy and is not, and it still draws a steady trickle of views.

The other two uploads went another way. Jason Johnson, the professional knife thrower, aimed Cold Steel knives at a ballistic dummy to ask whether you could survive the throw. The Finn Hawk II, a 3V steel bushcraft knife with a Micarta handle, got a short showcase of its own. It is credited to Andrew Demko and Lynn C. Thompson, Cold Steel's founder.

The channel ran a little below its usual daily pace. With 1.16 million subscribers it is the largest in its circle of military and weapons channels, while Max Afterburner and BFBS Forces News had far busier weeks.

I'm glad there are still people who "like going into the woods," even these days. 😉🤝
