The sign asks customers to check back for updates. But in Madisen Keavy's CBS News Sacramento report, the message from Downtown Commons is definitive: Echo & Rig is permanently closed.
That leaves more than a missing dinner reservation in Sacramento's arena-centered dining district. Former executive sous chef Kevin Johnson describes missing retirement contributions and a final paycheck that his bank rejected.
Johnson says deposits into his 401(k) stopped, leaving thousands of dollars missing. Looking through his records, he found repeated gaps. "Especially when I really got into it and saw how many deposits were missing... I was just shocked," he says.
Keavy also reports on other employees' bounced paychecks and a civil lawsuit alleging wage and labor violations at Echo & Rig. Johnson says he has taken the business to court over the missing retirement contributions. Those are allegations against the restaurant, not findings by a court.
The report drew about 41,000 views in its first day, roughly forty times the channel's usual start for a regular video. Its focus is the employees left sorting through bank notices and retirement records after the doors closed.
Keavy reports that someone close to the owner says efforts are being made to repay employees.
