Video surging 81x the video's usual pace

Big Water Guy's 'best travel hack,' an ad in a week of bluefin tuna

The clip barely stirred on its first day, then picked up more than 160,000 views in a single day while the tuna kept coming around it.

Why this story? The video is running at 161,111 views a day, 81 times its usual pace (1,981).

This is my best travel hack! #ADThis is my best travel hack! #AD

Its first day brought in about 3,500 views, a modest start on a channel built around fishing. Four days on, "This is my best travel hack! #AD" has passed 160,000, and nearly all of them arrived in the last day.

Big Water Guy describes his channel in three words, catch, cook, dive, and says he is based out of Washington. This clip is the odd one out: as its title says, it is an ad, and it sits in a week that otherwise belongs to the ocean. The hack itself stays inside the video, and it is not clear what set off the sudden jump.

The ad went up the same day as "Fresh caught bluefin tuna belly" and "No I don't want to eat at red lobster." Two days later came "This blew my socks off," now close to 140,000 views of its own. Then "Is my tuna ruined??" and "This is one of the best catch & cook's I've done!" followed on Saturday. With two videos running hot at once, the channel as a whole is ahead of its usual pace.

The comment section stayed small, a handful of notes against all those views. Several are about other videos: viewers asking when the next upload is coming, and one waiting for "that big tuna video." With "Is my tuna ruined??" already up, that wait may be shorter than they think.
