'The Last Cartridge Anyone Will Need,' and a comment section asking for a .308 version

Jim's look at a new Federal load in 6.5 Creedmoor was Backfire's only upload, and viewers spent the comments wishing it came in their own favorite calibers.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

On a usual day Backfire, the St. George, Utah channel built on hunting rifles and range testing, draws close to 100,000 views. Right now it is running at around 69,000, and the week brought just one new video to carry it.

That video makes a big promise in its title: "This Is The Last Cartridge Anyone Will Need." Inside, Jim takes on a new Federal load in 6.5 Creedmoor, and the comments make clear which part landed. Rather than arguing with the round, many viewers want it in their own chambering: a .308 version, a 7mm-08 with a good 140-grain bullet, even a revival of the .338 Federal in the same new case. Others note that it was due in stores in August and they still cannot find it, and one long thread drifts off to whether the 7mm Backcountry deserves the same attention. It passed 130,000 views in five days, most of them on its first day.

Behind it, two September videos keep ticking. "The Truth About the 'Best' Deer Cartridges" is nearing 200,000, and Jim's ten days alone in the Alaskan wilderness after caribou, with a 7 PRC built on the channel's own Backlight chassis, is still finding viewers at more than three weeks old.

Among outdoors and homesteading channels of a similar size, Tackle2thePeople is having the big week, running well above its usual pace, while Backfire sits closer to the quieter end of the group.

What viewers say

  • That was the shortest 12 minute video ever (very entertaining) and went by so fast. I wanted more. Love this round in a 6.5CM and I can't wait for it to be available to the masses (should be soon I have heard).
  • I can’t wait till they release a .308 version

  • Now if Federal would do this to the 7-08 with a really good 140gr bullet, that'd be the cats meow.
