Video taking off 10x its usual first day

Ben brings a wizard's staff to Viva La Dirt League's checkout

The fast-starting Short turns a discount demand into an argument over whether an ordinary shopper is interrupting a comedy sketch.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 725,345 views a day, 10 times a normal first day on this channel (70,252).

Finally Ben gets humbled...Finally Ben gets humbled...

Viva La Dirt League gives Ben a very literal prop for his latest customer complaint. He wants a staff discount, insists he is "staff somewhere", and eventually produces a large wizard's staff to make his case.

"Finally Ben gets humbled..." drew an estimated 725,000 views in its first day, far beyond the channel's usual start for Shorts. Its comment section was also more than four times as busy as usual, with viewers picking apart the staff pun and imagining how the employees might have used it themselves.

This is a staged TechTown sketch in which Ben's character believes the checkout belongs to him in more ways than one. When another clerk helps a woman buy a mouse, Ben objects to the competing dialogue. "I haven't finished my bit," he protests. The woman is trying to complete a purchase; he is trying to complete a performance.

The channel's recent upload "Ben's not the only customer" also puts his reluctance to share the spotlight at the centre. Here, the fantasy prop makes the contrast especially concrete: Ben has brought equipment for a joke to a shop where somebody else has brought money.

Several commenters want the woman to receive the staff discount instead. Others imagine a future sketch consisting entirely of normal shopping, with nobody allowed a bit at all.

  • Would have loved to know the staff punchline
  • Legitimately out of all his losses this is probably actually the hardest hitting one for him lol
