Viva La Dirt League's pickup line needs centuries of backstory
A customer's offer to rescue a shop employee becomes an improvised fantasy epic, and she keeps finding holes in his premise.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 466,995 views a day, 7 times a normal first day on this channel (67,192).
Getting hit on at work...
"Castle sounds like a pretty nice place to live." That is not the response a customer expects when he offers to rescue a princess, but Viva La Dirt League's shop employee has a perfectly reasonable objection: why leave?
In the comedy sketch "Getting hit on at work...", a flirtation at the Playtech counter turns into a world-building exercise. Dragons won't do as a threat, so the customer invents a magical plague. Soon he is explaining a weakened portal, a Dark Lord and the Chosen One, with centuries of history required to make his opening line work.
The employee settles in with snacks as he supplies the lore. "For that, we need context," he announces, committing himself to considerably more than a sales-counter conversation.
The Short has drawn nearly 390,000 views in its opening 16 hours, already well beyond the channel's usual full-day Shorts audience. Its comment section is also several times busier than a typical first day.
Viewers are discussing the customer's ability to improvise an entire fantasy setting, with some saying they would happily keep that conversation going. Others spot the flaw he has written into his own story: if the Chosen One is inside the castle, perhaps the woman behind the counter doesn't need rescuing at all.
