Viva La Dirt League's Warcraft reunion has too many tanks
An idealised fantasy party keeps needing revisions as friends choose their classes and one player spawns nowhere nearby.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 578,673 views a day, 9.4 times a normal first day on this channel (61,398).
Loading back into World of Warcraft....
Montakgal has pictured the reunion: mighty heroes, flaming weapons, elemental powers. Then his friends actually log in.
Viva La Dirt League's "Loading back into World of Warcraft...." turns a nostalgic return to online gaming into a series of corrections to that glorious mental picture. The players arrive in peasant clothes. Alan is stranded on the distant Thilivern Islands. And the carefully imagined party composition hasn't survived everyone choosing what they want to play.
Rowan Bettjeman plays Montakgal, whose solution is to keep rebuilding the fantasy in his head. Each new complication brings another heroic tableau, revised to accommodate the considerably less convenient group he actually has. Byron Coll's Shinshia has chosen warrior, leaving two nearby players serving as tanks, while Britt Scott Clark's Amy becomes a mage. Their healer is elsewhere.
The Short has reached roughly 740,000 views, with its estimated first-day audience nearly ten times the channel's usual opening for the format. In the comments, viewers recognise the pressure of squeezing a grand gaming reunion into an hour. Others focus on Greg the Garlic Farmer and the etiquette of letting an NPC finish speaking.
This is a staged sketch in the group's fictional Skycraft world. Its companion upload, "World of Warcraft nostalgia bait", credits WoW Forever and Blizzard as sponsors of the episode.
Amy suggests catching up with each other before getting down to business. Montakgal's answer is brisk: "No time. Questing."
