Smosh Pit's rubber chickens make keeping quiet impossible
A rubber-band challenge becomes a chorus of squeaks, with viewers comparing the cast to Pixar's For the Birds.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 1,202,897 views a day, 5.6 times a normal first day on this channel (216,411).
(squeaking)
How is anyone supposed to keep a straight face with a rubber chicken squeaking in their mouth? Smosh Pit's latest Short adds another obstacle: rubber bands snapped against bare lower legs.
In "(squeaking)," the attempt to endure those snaps without laughing quickly unravels. A cast member in green shorts starts cracking up, setting off rapid squeaks. He grabs the chicken with both hands, but the noise continues, and the rest of the group joins the laughter. By the time a fellow cast member shouts "Shut up!", quiet is no longer a realistic possibility.
The clip has reached nearly 600,000 views in eight hours, already well beyond the channel's usual full-day audience for a Short. That makes this particular collapse stand out on a channel where trying not to laugh is practically a house tradition: several of its most-watched regular videos belong to that series.
Viewers are picking apart the chain reaction. Some describe one squeaking chicken setting off all the others; several hear a resemblance to the chattering flock in Pixar's For the Birds. Another is still trying to find the rubber chicken-head squeakers themselves. For this challenge, the props are doing as much comic work as the cast.
