Press to jump

  1. 0:00The referee gives final instructions and asks for a clean fight before the opening bell.
  2. 0:17Round two: Mbilli lands his jab and right hands as Canelo replies to the body.
  3. 1:02Round six: Mbilli presses forward while Canelo throws combinations off the ropes.
  4. 1:38Round seven: a heavy Canelo uppercut, then a low blow costs Mbilli a point.
  5. 2:08Rounds eleven and twelve: open exchanges and a right hook just before the final bell.
  6. 2:44The ring announcer reads the decision; a Violent Night 2 trailer follows at 02:56.

Christian Mbilli came to Saudi Arabia with a plan built on pressure, and DAZN Boxing's highlights show it working early. In the second round he lands his jab and right hands, and Sergio Mora, calling the fight beside Todd Grisham, says it plainly: "That's Mbilli's fight right there."

What follows is the part viewers keep talking about. Canelo Álvarez, the Mexican four-division champion, answers with body punches and hooks and is timing counters by the fourth round. By the sixth he is working combinations off the ropes instead of waiting for one big shot. A heavy uppercut lands in the seventh, the same round Mbilli loses a point for a low blow after repeated warnings. In the last seconds of the twelfth a right hook rocks Mbilli before the bell, and the scorecards leave the WBC super middleweight title where it was.

The three-minute package is now close to 1.9 million views, and its comments arrived more than twenty times faster than on a usual first day for the channel. Their common thread is speed. Many say they cannot remember the last Canelo flurry and compare the night with the fighter of earlier years. Others give Mbilli, the Cameroon-born Frenchman, credit for standing in front of him to the end.

One thing to know before pressing play: the clip closes with a trailer for Violent Night 2, the Santa Claus action sequel opening in theaters December 4.

The card spilled across the rest of the channel. A full-card highlights reel and a Jaime Munguia-Nikita Zon exchange billed as round of the year both started strongly. Two Shorts carry a different conversation from the same night: Oleksandr Usyk, flexing in a clip titled as showing off his cruiserweight shape, wants David Benavidez next, and another title quotes Benavidez calling it potentially "one of the greatest fights of all time."

What viewers say

  • It's been a while since I've since Canelo throw quick combos rather than single power shots. More of this, please.
  • When he hit those fast combos, completely caught me off guard. Can't remember the last time I saw a Canelo flurry.
  • Great win by Canelo and just by looking at his reaction you can tell this meant a lot to him. Mbili stood toe to toe with a living legend. Great fight

  • The way canelo flows with the punches is insane
  • You gotta give it to Canelo, this guy has fought some of the toughest and best fighters in the world. He is not scared. I really appreciate the fact that he's been one of the smaller guys stepping up to face the bigger fighters, win or lose. Always respect to Canelo.
