A hidden Minion voice box is an unusual piece of ghost-hunting equipment. In Smosh Pit's Halloween edition of Reading Reddit Stories, it's the supposed ghost itself: a Reddit poster describes concealing one in an old apartment after a dispute over a deposit.

Shayne Topp reads while Angela, dressed as a devil, and first-time guest Eli, dressed as an angel, consider the collateral damage. The person hearing the mysterious noises wasn't the person responsible for the dispute. Angela's own contribution is less elaborate: automatic air fresheners at her mother's home have supplied perfectly convincing late-night scares.

"Spooky Scary Stories | Reading Reddit Stories" has drawn about 802,000 views since yesterday. The costumes extend to Shayne, whose Reddit-alien headband prompted several viewers to admit that they took a while to recognize his outfit.

The episode's more unsettling turn comes with "The Whistler," a Reddit account of encounters with an unidentified whistling figure. All three gather around Shayne's tablet to examine footage. Angela is less troubled by the sound than by the figure in a canoe, while the discussion works through distance, fireworks and the acoustics of water.

That last point has become a substantial conversation in the comments: viewers describe how clearly voices and whistles can carry across lakes. Others offer a defense of the canoeist, who might reasonably decline to answer someone shouting from shore.

The episode includes a paid Shopify advertisement. Later submissions concern strange objects appearing on a roof and a house purchase complicated by reports of ghosts. Shayne, meanwhile, has a simpler answer to unexplained household noises: living with cats gives you something to blame.
