'Nearly $100' for 20 million seniors: Trump's cash promise, in a USA TODAY short
The comment section turned into a running tally of what the money might buy and which earlier promised checks people say they are still waiting for.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 580,006 views a day, 69 times a normal first day on this channel (8,407).
Trump promises 'nearly $100' to 20M seniors in latest cash giveaway
Nearly $100, within days. That is the promise at the center of USA TODAY's short clip, in which President Donald Trump announces a payment to some 20 million seniors across the country. The description quotes him saying the payments will go out within days, and calls it the latest of his promises of cash to Americans.
Eleven hours after it went up, the clip had close to 400,000 views. This channel's shorts usually gather a few thousand on their whole first day. The comments moved even faster: more than fifty times what a typical short collects in its first day.
Much of that talk circles around one word in the title, "nearly." Commenters work out what the money would cover, from a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk to a footlong sandwich, and one compares it to a grandmother's birthday quarter that never kept up with the times. Others set it beside earlier promised checks, tariff and DOGE among them, that they say have not arrived.
It was a crowded Saturday on the channel. Alongside the seniors clip came an interview with Juan Garcia, the father of six who won MrBeast's eat-everything-in-a-grocery-store game, about his plans for the prize. The only other upload of the day to run well past the usual pace was about the "I am Jane Doe" campaign, an online effort to protect the identity of the young woman at the center of the Cornell rape case.
