Virginia and DC Sue to Block Trump’s Planned Triumphal Arch
Environmental harm, traffic disruption and a lack of congressional approval are at the center of a lawsuit seeking to stop President Donald Trump's planned triumphal arch.
In her Sunday TODAY report, NBC's Julie Tsirkin explains that Virginia and Washington, D.C., are trying to halt groundbreaking for the 250-foot monument, proposed for a site between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. The attorneys general warn that construction would cause "immediate and irreparable" harm to the area.
The report has drawn nearly 88,000 views before its first full day is over, an unusually fast start for TODAY's short uploads. Its comment section is also far busier than the channel's usual first day.
Tsirkin pairs the legal objections with footage of Trump holding models of the proposed arch. She also distinguishes earlier proposals from the final design: features involving drones and snipers, mentioned earlier, are not included in the final plans.
