An old fence post, a family of spiders and the big one that jumped
Terraon's clip of a fence job interrupted by eight-legged tenants drew more than 450 comments in sixteen hours, many of them about where the mother was hiding.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 559,614 views a day, 16 times a normal first day on this channel (33,991).
Hidden Spider Family Discovery!
What was living inside the old fence post? A whole family of spiders, as it turned out. In the clip, first filmed by the Instagram account tl_rural, a man is pulling out an old strainer post (the heavy anchor post at the end of a fence line) when he finds small spiders tucked inside. The description says he did not realize how big the main one was until it jumped out at him.
Terraon, a channel of daily nature shorts reposted with credit to the people who filmed them, put the clip up on Saturday. Sixteen hours later it had passed 450,000 views, far beyond what a new short there usually gathers in a whole day. Its comments came in roughly forty times faster than usual.
The most liked ones are about that big spider. Several viewers say they missed it the first time and only spotted its legs on a rewatch. Others reach for Harry Potter, or for trees as a new fear. Many identify the family as huntsman spiders and insist they are harmless to people, while some simply ask the man to leave them alone. One Australian viewer says their household keeps one under the fridge and has given it a name.
It led a busy few days for the channel. A swallowtail caterpillar showing off its hidden defense organ, posted the day before, has passed 230,000 views.
