No animals, just a dad and his newborn: CatchyMals' half-million short
A channel built on cozy animal stories has its biggest mover in a short about a father surprised by his baby, and the comments have become a swap of viewers' own childhood stories.
Why this story? The video is running at 438,223 views a day, 42 times its usual pace (10,451).
This Dad Didn’t Expect His Baby to Look Like This 👶 #usa
CatchyMals introduces itself as a home for heartwarming stories of cute animals, with cozy vibes and soft tales. The short doing the heavy lifting on the clips channel has no animal in its title. "This Dad Didn’t Expect His Baby to Look Like This" is about a father meeting a newborn who surprised him, and it has now passed half a million views.
It did not start that way. Its first day was modest by the channel's standards. As we reported here, it was already speeding up by its third day, and since then the pace has grown several times over, with more than 400,000 views in the latest day alone.
Like everything the channel posts, it comes with a one-line caption and a #usa tag, and the title does not say who filmed it. The rest of the recent uploads move back and forth between the two worlds: a cat angling for treats, a dog that "didn't think twice" before saving someone, and a mother reunited with her son, which has done best of the others.
The comment section under the dad's video is small. Much of it has turned into viewers telling stories about themselves: people who say they were born with dark hair that later turned blond, or spent their first months pale with gray eyes before their coloring changed. Several simply write that the same thing happened when they were born.
