A lever action with a box magazine: Tenacious Trilobite fires the Winchester 88
Winchester's 1950s answer to scoping a full-power .308 lever gun was the week's only upload, and a borrowed one at that.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Winchester 88 POV firing
Four days old, and the Winchester 88 is already the busiest thing on a channel whose about page calls itself a depository of random videos, mostly old firearms, mostly first person. That is exactly what this one is: a short POV clip of a lever action chambered in .308, a rifle the description credits to a friend named Jameson.
The description explains the point of the design. Introduced in the 1950s, the 88 was Winchester's try at a lever gun for full-power rifle cartridges, with a receiver built to take a scope. The detachable box magazine is what catches people. Several viewers admit it had never crossed their minds that a lever action could feed from one. Others recognize it from First Blood, as Galt's rifle, and one remembers it as a father's deer rifle in Muskoka. The scope gets some ribbing, too, for not being perfectly clean.
Behind it, an 18-day-old Glock 17L, one of the recent retro runs made to look like Gen 1, keeps drawing a steady crowd. The description admits he went out and bought one after filming it. Further back, an original Martini-Henry Mk.II, lent by C&Rsenal, is still finding viewers two months on.
The channel as a whole ran a touch below its usual daily pace, with about 1.25 million views over the seven days and a modest bump in subscribers. Among the military and weapons channels nearest its size, it sits third on both counts. Daniel Davis's Deep Dive had by far the busiest week, while scholagladiatoria ran well above its own norm.

Somehow it... never occured to me that you could have a lever action with an external magazine.
