Arena, Iron Fist and a dying tank's last defense: Perun on active protection

A handful of Russian tanks carrying the Arena-M system, which shot down some drones before the attack failed anyway, gave the Australian analyst his starting point.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Thirty-seven hours old and already near 300,000 views, Perun's newest episode asks a blunt question: what do you do when armour is not enough? Most of that crowd arrived on the first day.

The hook is a small Russian attack from this year. A few main battle tanks went forward fitted with the Arena-M active protection system, and it managed to shoot down some of the drones aimed at them. The description answers its own question about whether the attack worked: no. From there the episode widens out, from Arena to Israel's Iron Fist, through the reasons armies have been slow to adopt these systems and what it would cost to invest in keeping crews alive. The Patrons voted for this topic, and the pinned note says the next three winners from that poll are already in progress.

The comments read like a regular audience on its Sunday routine. Many joke about the episode arriving on time. Others spot a survivability onion slide they think The Chieftain would approve of, or a nod to the Humvee rush from Command & Conquer: Generals. Another running joke is the truck covered in reactive armour, which several viewers call pure Mad Max.

The Lyman episode on Ukraine's Operation Vivaldi, now nine days old, keeps drawing a steady audience behind it, and the channel is running at close to three times its usual daily pace. Among the military and geopolitics channels close to it in size, William Spaniel is on a similar run, while Blue Paw Print had the biggest week of the group.
