Crimea's land bridge, and why Ukraine may not be planning an offensive there
William Spaniel's newest breakdown passed 177,000 views in its first twelve hours, after a week spent on diesel, Hormuz and a disputed CNN scoop.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Ukraine's Real Plan for Crimea Is More Complicated Than It Seems
William Spaniel, the professor who brings game theory to war, spent his week on three puzzles, and the last of them took off fastest. "Ukraine's Real Plan for Crimea Is More Complicated Than It Seems" looks at months of Ukrainian strikes along the land bridge to the peninsula and asks whether they really point to a repeat of the failed 2023 summer offensive. The chapter titles give away his direction: one section is called "What the Campaign Is NOT." Twelve hours after going up, it had close to 180,000 views.
The midweek video carries more views so far. "The Dominoes of War" follows diesel from Russia's refinery troubles to a possible soft opening of the Strait of Hormuz, then to a U.S. export ban that the description calls seriously silly. Viewers latched onto the vocabulary: "crack spread" turns out to be a real and serious term, and several jokes in the comments fold the title into a pizza order. One commenter adds that a plain export tax would be unconstitutional in the United States, which is why licensing schemes exist.
The week opened with a skeptical read of a CNN exclusive claiming that the United States and China nearly came to blows over a ship bound for Iran. Spaniel spends most of its twenty minutes on what the report leaves out. Behind all three, a twelve-day-old video on how the Volkswagen emissions scandal shaped Russia's refineries keeps drawing a steady crowd.
It was still a slower week than the channel usually has. Among military and geopolitics channels of similar size, it sits fourth by subscribers but near the bottom for views gained, while RFU News and Danny Haiphong kept up their usual busy pace.
