The MAS 44, a rifle France needed in 1940, gets its C&Rsenal overview

Four uploads went up, from a stainless Charter Arms Bulldog to a British-contract Remington cut from a longer Primer episode.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

MAS 44 OverviewMAS 44 Overview

Among the military and weapons channels close to C&Rsenal in size, only three gathered more views over the past seven days, about two million. That is a respectable place in the group, though the channel ran at well under half its usual daily pace, and several neighbors, robinswords and Tenacious Trilobite among them, had softer weeks still.

The upload doing the most work is "MAS 44 Overview," a look at the French semi-automatic rifle that arrived after the war it was meant for and grew into the MAS 49 family. The most liked comment makes exactly that point, about a rifle that came too late. Elsewhere viewers admire its looks: the two-tone split stock, the bare receiver with its rough machining marks, the white charging handle. Others joke about the old "rejected by the French Army" clichés, and a few are waiting for Ian of Forgotten Weapons to weigh in.

The rest of the week wandered widely, in the way of a channel whose about text promises "the old gun show." A stainless Charter Arms Bulldog revolver, a short on a 1975 one-third moon clip and a British-contract Remington 14 1/2 filled the other slots. The Remington, billed in its description as a slice of a larger Primer episode, is three days old and nearly as quick as the MAS.

That Primer habit keeps paying off. "Primer 229: German Walther P38," Professor Gruffudd's lecture on the wartime service pistol, has passed 200,000 views two weeks after going up and is still among the channel's busiest videos.

What viewers say

  • A gun France desperately needed in 1940 but came way too late.
  • It's so pleasing to look at, the two tone split stock and bare receiver, the white charging handle that we see on kitted out AKs nowadays, it's such a delight.
