The ASS2000 comes home: Speed Academy rebuilds its very first project car
The Suzuka Blue AP1 Honda S2000 that started the channel is back for a full refresh, and the comments are full of people who subscribed because of it.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Building Our FIRST EVER Project Car (Again)
Among the car channels close to Speed Academy in size, only one added fewer views over the past seven days, and the channel as a whole ran at well under half its usual daily pace. One new video went up. It happened to be the one many longtime viewers had been hoping for.
"Building Our FIRST EVER Project Car (Again)" brings back the ASS2000, the AP1 Honda S2000 in what the description calls 50 shades of Suzuka Blue, and the first car Peter Tarach and Dave Pratte ever built for the channel. The plan is a complete refresh, and it passed 87,000 views in three days.
The comment section reads like a reunion. Viewer after viewer says this car is how they found the channel in the first place, some of them a decade or more ago. The rest are busy arguing over the back end: the spoiler fitted now, a Honda CR wing, or a proper APR GT wing to match the Voltex-style body kit, along with a smaller debate over AP1 and AP2 tail lights. A few people also say farewell to the old shop, which they see as a fitting last project for it.
The older videos are still pulling their weight. The 10-day-old CRV that had its horsepower doubled is the channel's busiest video right now, well ahead of Pete's 2JZ-powered E46 M3, which came out of a five-year hibernation last month.
Around them, Top Gear Classic and Chevrolet both had big weeks, while RESTORED and CarExpert ran quieter than usual.

The S2000 shares its name format with an earlier Honda roadster from the 1960s. Which one?
Honda's S-series sports cars of the 1960s included the S500, S600 and S800, and the S2000 revived that naming in 1999.
