Robert Zane on a side quest: Wendell Pierce rides along in Nicolas Cage's cop short

The 1994 scene from It Could Happen to You has passed two and a half million views, and the comments keep spotting the future Suits lawyer and a certain Ghost Rider.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Who is the other cop in that convenience store? Viewers of "A sharp police officer can smell danger at a glance" worked it out quickly: it is Wendell Pierce, who plays Nicolas Cage's partner in It Could Happen to You, and whom many know better as the formidable lawyer Robert Zane in Suits. "Robert Zane on a side quest" has become the running joke of the comment section, along with plenty of Ghost Rider gags about Cage swapping his flaming skull for a badge.

The scene itself has given viewers something to argue about. Cage's officer stops a robbery with a well-aimed can of food rather than his pistol, and a good part of the comments is a cheerful debate over whether any real cop would choose groceries over a gun.

The clip is the channel's runaway short of the week. After it passed a million, as we reported here, it kept going to more than two and a half million. Gran Torino's "Still the old man" is close to a million behind it, and an older edit from Roger Avary's Lucky Day, simply titled "He's terrifying," is still pulling in crowds two weeks on.

The rest of the week's seven uploads sampled television: The Resident, White Collar, Imposters and Justified: City Primeval, all off to quieter starts.

Taken together, it added up to close to 45 million views in seven days, more than any channel of a similar size in the movie and TV clips world, where most of them had a calmer week than usual. Another 30,000 subscribers came along, and the channel now sits at 1.26 million.
