Did the New Republic kill all the Hutts? Star Wars Explained counts the survivors

The answer is no: one palace on Nal Hutta fell in The Mandalorian and Grogu, and viewers are busy naming every Hutt who might still be out there.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Star Wars Explained put up nine videos this week. Most of them were still working through The Mandalorian and Grogu, and the most watched new one asks the darkest question the film raises: "Did the New Republic kill all the Hutts?"

The short answer, according to the description, is no. The New Republic destroyed one palace on Nal Hutta. It was an important one, probably the main seat of Hutt power, with the Twins and several other Hutts inside. The video also wonders whether that was a rash move, since only the Twins were known to be working against the Republic. Elsewhere, Mama the Hutt is likely still somewhere in the swamp, Gardulla kept a palace on Tatooine, and Vranki ran a casino. The comments read like a missing-persons board. Viewers ask after Zorba, Jabba's father from the old Legends stories, and after Graballa and Mama. One running joke points out that the Hutt Council has now been wiped out often enough to make a habit of it.

The rest of the film week asked where Thrawn is hiding and how the Razor Crest got to Adelphi. Then the channel switched to racing. The review of Star Wars: Galactic Racer, billed as unlike anything the host has played, is the busiest of the newer uploads. The Hollywood Reporter's word that Jon Watts, the director of Tom Holland's Spider-Man films and co-creator of Skeleton Crew, may direct Episode X got a video of its own and a slot in the weekly roundup.

The quickest video on the channel right now is a day-old short. It is a fast Watto explainer, which follows the junk dealer from his soldiering days on Toydaria to a ruined shop by the time of the First Order.

Overall the channel ran slower than usual and its subscriber count did not move. Among similar movie and TV channels it sat mid-table, while Sona Darus had an enormous week and CinePals ran well above its usual pace.

  • sounds like the perfect time to bring back Zorba The Hutt
  • If not even Luke was really the last Jedi, these couldn't be the last Hutts to exist in the entire universe.
