Elle Fanning does Dakota, and the comments hear Coraline
A short from Rolling Stone's Hunger Games interview with Elle Fanning and Iris Apatow became the channel's runaway clip of the weekend, and viewers keep naming the exact Dakota role they heard in it.
Rolling StoneStory of Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 361,788 views a day, 118 times a normal first day on this channel (3,071).
Elle Fanning Does An Impression Of Her Sister Dakota Fanning
Asked to impersonate her older sister, Elle Fanning gave Rolling Stone a few seconds of Dakota Fanning, and those few seconds passed half a million views in little more than a day. That is an unusual start for this channel's short videos, which tend to spend their first day in the low thousands.
The clip comes from a promotional sit-down for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the next chapter of Suzanne Collins's saga brought to the screen by director Francis Lawrence. Elle and Iris Apatow play sisters in it, Effie and Proserpina Trinket. Effie is the Capitol escort with the outrageous wardrobe whom fans know from the original films. So the magazine's game was a neat fit: two actors playing sisters, asked to do their real ones.
The comments came in far faster than this channel's shorts usually get them, and much of the talk is about one small sound. Many viewers say Elle's "oh gosh" is pure Dakota, and some go further and place it in Coraline, the 2009 stop-motion film Dakota voiced. Others note that the impression is as much in the face as in the voice, with the wide eyes singled out. Still more call it the most little-sister answer imaginable. A good share of the section turns into a tribute to Dakota's early films, with I Am Sam and The Runaways both coming up.
The full interview, by the description's account, runs through a bucket of Popcorn Questions, a Hunger Games name generator and a Lil Wayne challenge for Elle. Iris names co-star Maya Hawke as the one most likely to lead a rebellion, and Elle explains why she was messaging Mariska Hargitay. The channel cut several more shorts from it the next day, including Iris's impression of her own sister, Euphoria's Maude Apatow. So far that one has drawn only a few thousand views.
