Video taking off 17x its usual first day

Roosters v Knights, decided by a point: the NRL Grand Final highlights

Knights supporters are counting the single point that kept them from a first title since 2001, and plenty of Roosters fans in the same thread are saluting them for it.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 190,465 views a day, 17 times a normal first day on this channel (11,344).

"NRL 2026 | Roosters v Knights | Match Highlights | Grand Final" is the league's own cut of the season decider between the Sydney Roosters and the Newcastle Knights, posted on the official NRL channel the day of the match. Seventeen hours later it had passed 160,000 views, on a channel where a new highlights package usually ends its first day nearer 11,000.

The comment section moved even faster than the views: close to 300 comments in those hours, against a usual first day in single figures. Most of it is about the margin. Knights supporters write about falling a single point short of their first premiership in 25 years. Newcastle's last title came in 2001. Roosters fans celebrate a first premiership since 2019 and talk about "curses" they say the club has now broken. Viewers keep naming two players. One is Daly Cherry-Evans, credited in the comments with a field goal that showed his experience. The other is Mark Nawaqanitawase, whose run metres and catches get a lot of praise. That is a neat turn after the Dally M Team of the Year left fans asking where he was, as we reported here. Some viewers are already noting that he heads back to rugby union.

One of the most liked comments simply thanks the channel for posting the highlights straight away this year.

The Grand Final was not the only video moving. Highlights of the State Championship between Penrith and Redcliffe and a short of Kalyn Ponga in full flight each ran several times past the channel's usual start. The longer extended cut of the decider has drawn far fewer viewers so far.

What viewers say

  • I know most of us wanted the Knights to win, but let's be real. This was no doubt one of the greatest grand finals in NRL history.
This final had absolutely everything from wooden spooner making the big dance, to a team breaking the 50 point curse, to a one point finish where it could've gone either way.

Congratulations to the Sydney Roosters, you guys absolutely deserve this premiership.

  • I don't care about the result, the Knights wore their jersey, represented their club and town with pride. Well done lads. 👍
  • Good to see you posting this right away instead of waiting 4 days like last year's GF
