Sachin Tendulkar and Nasser Hussain, 2018, back on a channel past 500 million views
The documentary in which Tendulkar looks back on his international career with the former England captain became the most watched of four new uploads, ahead of South Africa's bid for an ODI clean sweep against Australia.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
The story of Sachin Tendulkar! | When Sachin met Nasser in 2018
Sky Sports Cricket has gone past half a billion views in total. What it chose to post as it crossed that line is an old conversation, not a new match.
"The story of Sachin Tendulkar! | When Sachin met Nasser in 2018" is the 2018 documentary in which Tendulkar sat down with Nasser Hussain to look back on an international career that ran from 1989 to 2013 and took in 100 international centuries. It went up on Friday and passed 120,000 views within three days. The comment section reads like a group of people comparing childhoods. Several viewers remember the television going off the moment he was out, others single out the advice from his father that comes up in the film, to be a good human being before a great cricketer, and one wishes the interview had run for hours, with Mike Atherton pulled into the chair as well.
The rest of the week belonged to South Africa against Australia: highlights of the third ODI, framed around whether the South Africans could finish a clean sweep, a short with the title "Tempers flare between Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock!", and a Bjorn Fortuin catch. The busiest video overall is still last week's Hussain interview with Kevin Pietersen about his new England role, which covers working with Brendon McCullum and his thoughts on Tom Banton and Harry Brook. It has now passed 230,000 views.
The channel ran at about half its usual daily pace, and it added around a thousand subscribers. Among the golf, cycling and other sports channels near its size, the Professional Darts Corporation and the Afghanistan Cricket Board had the bigger weeks. Sky Sports Cricket sat in the middle, with Nasser Hussain at the center of both of its biggest videos.
