SBS On Demand's Jodhaa Akbar clip turns a family tradition into a test for an emperor: identify your bride among a line of veiled women, or spend the night outside counting stars. Suhasini Mulay, playing his mother-in-law, delivers the challenge with a smile.

Hrithik Roshan's Akbar studies the women before approaching one in a yellow veil. Beneath it is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's Jodhaa. Yet when he asks her to return with him, her answer is a firm refusal. Solving the guessing game hasn't resolved the disagreement between them.

The Short drew nearly 50,000 views before its first full day was over, far beyond the channel's usual start. In the comments, viewers pick out the changing expression in Rai Bachchan's eyes, while one admits to expecting the Jodha from the television series instead.

Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, the 2008 historical romance gives its imperial couple room for intimate negotiations as well as spectacle. SBS has included the film in its Celebrating Diwali | Deepavali collection, choosing a scene where royal authority is little help with a personal request.
