When a quick trip to the corner shop takes an unexpected turn… #TheGuestList #Microdrama

Mika has a boat party to get to, a dress to collect and a shopkeeper who has stopped handing out parcels for the evening. An elderly customer buying stamps is not helping her timetable.

That small corner-shop predicament has brought a sudden burst of views to Channel 4's The Guest List. The episode added about 95,000 views in a day, after usually drawing around 200 a day. Posted on Wednesday, it is the third instalment of a five-part microdrama.

This is a scripted sketch sponsored by Sol de Janeiro, with the partnership identified on screen. Its comedy rests on Mika trying to negotiate her way past Darren's parcel-collection deadline. When he finally grants an exception, she produces a second collection slip. "Is there any chance you can make the exception... twice though?" she asks.

Then her neighbour walks in. Mika ducks into an aisle rather than let him see her in sweatpants, before asking to use the shop's back room to change into her party dress. Collecting a delivery has become getting ready to go out.

Channel 4 also has a fast-starting Gogglebox upload featuring reactions to Prince William's Graham Norton Show appearance. Here, though, the drama is deliberately smaller: a counter, a parcel slip and an inflexible closing time. The Guest List's next episode is scheduled for 11 November at 4pm.
